Our caption, " Preserve Earth, it is the most precious natural wealth you can leave behind", could be a Wordsworthian's dream topic, a nature lover's or an environmentalist's clarion call, a child's hope for the future, and every man's humble tribute to the grandeur of Nature and Mother Earth.

What role does a businessman or an industrialist play in the implementation of the above caption?

The rich natural resources of the Earth are fast diminishing, because of the unscruplous greed of man. Man, on one side is systematically stripping the Earth of its natural walth, from another front he is dumping garbage, effluents and other wastes in his vicinity. All these factor's affect the ecological balance of Nature and Earth. The glitter of gold and jingle of money has deprived Man o his sense of gratitude towards Mother Earth.

Here we have a saga of success, where environmental protection is money, where waste turs\ns to gold and "DUST to DOLLARS". Profits without robbing (steaaling) the rich natural resources of the Earth, without affecting the ecological balance of Nature, and at the same time safeguarding and preserving the child's hope of a better, healthier and a greener future.

Peat-alternate, namely 'COIR PEAT', made from coconut husk is the product of interest and immense scope. Coirpeat is new, it is different and it is environmentally friendly.

PEAT
1.What is peat?

Peat is decomposed vegetable matter, that lies under the earth for decades. The areas where peat is available are called peat-bogs. The process of decomposition of vegetable matter into peat is natural, and hence time consuming. Peat is extensively mined from the earth to meet the world demand.

2.What are the uses of Peat?

Peat is used as a soil-substitute or a growing medium and potting mix in horticulture, floriculture, land scaping and domestic gardens. Peat is also used as a Fuel to some extent. The use of peat as a growing medium is the area of our interest.

3.What is the demand for Peat?

Peat has a phenominal demand as a growing medium, the world over. Millions of cubic-metre (M3) of peat is required annually to meet the growing demand world over.
For example, the annual requirement of peat in U.K is 3.4 million cubic-metres, ie. roughly around Seven Thousand Five Hundred 40' container loads. Off this 1.8 million cubic metre is mined in U.K and the balance 1.6 million cubic metre is imported from Ireland. The U.K figures will give a clear indication of the demand for peat, the world over.

SOIL CONDITIONING:    ECO-PEAT is ideal as a soil conditioner for all soil types. Because of its fibrous nature it will break up the heaviest of clay soils, making it more frible and allowing free drainage. It is also ideal for use in light and sandy soils where, because of its sponge-like structure it will retain large quantities of water and oxygen and will help in preventing leaching of vital nutrients.

Fork in a 50-75 mm (2-3") layer of ECO-PEAT into the top 250mm (10") of soil.
ROSES, TREES, & SHRUBS:    Dig a hole big enough to allow the root system to be spread out without distortion. Mix together half the soil removed from the hole with the same quantity of ECO-PEAT.
Put a good all-purpose fertilizer or bonemeal at the bottom of the hole. Sprinkle approx. 25mm(1") of the soil mix over the fertilizer.
Place the plant in position. If required, insert a treated stake, making sure the plant roots are not damaged. Secure the stake with a tie neat the top of the stem. Backfill with the soil / ECO-PEAT mix, firming carefully but firmly and water well.
VEGETABLES, FRUITS & FLOWERS:   Spread 50-75mm (2-3") of ECO-PEAT over your soil, together with a good garden fertilizer and dig into the top 150-200mm (6-8") of the soil.
BEANS, PEAS, SWEET - PEASETIC:   When preparing the ground for planting beans, peas etc., add a 25-50mm (1-2") layer of ECO-PEAT, together with a good garden fertilizer to the base of the trench. Water well before planting.
SEED SOWING:   Rake or lightly fork a 12mm (1/2") layer of ECO-PEAT into the top50mm (2") of the soil to obtain a fine tilth, ensuring there is sufficient moisture throughtout the germination period. When showing seeds in seed trays or containers, use ECO-PEAT (Seed) and potting Eco Compost.
NEW LAWNS:   When preparing a new lawn, add 500-75mm (2-3") of ECO-PEAT together with a pre-seeding fertilizer into the top 150-200mm (6-8") of soil, ensuring the area is adequately watered. By adding ECO-PEAT to your new lawn, it will help retain large quantities of water during dry conditions, at the same time allowing good drainage and will also provid vital oxygen to the roots and humus to the soil.
MULCHING:   Before mulching, ensure the surface is free of weeds. To mulch, add atleast 50-75mm (2-3) of ECO-PEAT. This will help suppress weeds and retain moisutre in the soil. It will help protect the roots from frost during the winter and the scorching sun during the summer.
