| 1cup thuvar dal | a few curry leaves |
| 1/2tsp coriander powder | 1 tsp cumin seeds |
| 1/2coconut, scraped | 1/2cup tamarind pulp |
| 4 drumstick | 1 cup coriander leaves |
| 1/2tsp turmeric powder | a pinch of asafoetida |
| 4 whole red chillies | oil as needed |
| 1 tsp mustard seeds |
* Peel and cut thedrumstick into 5 cm pieces and boil
them in water with a little salt and turmeric.
* Cook the dal in water in a pressure cooker, till soft.
* In one tbsp oil fry the red chillies, coriander powder,
turmeric powder, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds. Grind all these with
half of the coconut scrapings.
* Mix the ground paste with the cooked dal and drumsticks.Add
the tamarind pulp to the mixture and bring to boil.
* Heat 5 tbsps oil and fry mustard seeds, asafoetida
and curry leaves. Pour over the sambhar.
* Add the remaining coconut scrapings and salt to taste.
Cook till well blended. Add coriander leaves and serve hot.
