250 gms chana dal  
1 lemon  
1/2 kg bottlegourd (dudhi)  
2 tbsps coriander leaves. chopped   
3 onions , chopped finely  
oil as needed   
1 tsp coriander powder  
salt to taste   
1 tsp chilli powder seasoning  
1 tsp turmeric powder  
1 clove garlic   
1 tsp garam masala  
1 red chilli  
2 cm piece ginger  
a pinch of cumin seeds   
4 green chillies        
a pinch of asafoetida  
2 tomatoes
