Rasam
NIMMKAIYA CHARU
1 cup thuvar dal  2 ripe tomatoes 
3 red chillies  2 green chillies 
1 tsp coriander seeds 3 lemons
1 tsp chana dal a pinch of asafoetida 
1/2tsp cumin seeds a few curry leaves 
1/2tsp peppercorns  oil as needed 
1/2tsp turmeric powder  salt to taste 
1 tsp mustard seeds 
* Cook the dal in a water or pressure cook with a pinch of turmeric .Churn well and keep aside.
* Dry roast red chillies, coriander seeds, chana dal, peppercorns, tomatoes and chopped green chillies.Cook for a few minutes.
* Boil two cups of water and add turmeric powder, chopped tomatoes and chopped green chillies. Cook for afew minutes.
* Add the powdered masala and salt to taste.
* After the powdered masala and salt to taste.
* After 5-10 minutes add the churned dal.
* Boil adding water if needed.
* Pour in 1/4cup cold water and simmer. Remove from the fire.
* Squueze in the lemon juice.
* Garnish with fried mustard seeds and curry leaves.Serve piping hot.
